Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia: The 7th National Assembly Election was Free and Fair

Phnom Penh: The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) has expressed its view that the 7th National Assembly election was conducted in a free, fair, and just manner, adhering to the principles of liberal democracy, pluralism, and legal principles. Notably, the election proceeded smoothly in a peaceful atmosphere, devoid of violence or intimidation.

In a statement released on July 28, 2023, regarding the 7th National Assembly Election held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, the UYFC reported that a total of 41,333 of its members were deployed as observers at polling stations across 25 capitals and provinces during the recent election.

The UYFC took pride in monitoring the 7th National Assembly election, considering it a significant mission for the youth to actively contribute to Cambodia's democratic process, specifically through election observation. The parliamentary elections are held on a regular five-year basis, following the provisions of the Constitution, which is the supreme law of the nation. The elections provide an opportunity for all Cambodians, regardless of gender, to exercise their right to elect the country's leaders within the framework of a liberal, multi-party democracy, in accordance with the prevailing laws, regulations, and procedures.

The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia extends its congratulations and appreciation to the National Election Committee and officials at all levels, along with relevant authorities, for fulfilling their roles and responsibilities with utmost attention and a strong sense of responsibility. Their collective efforts ensured that the 7th legislative election was conducted in a free, fair, and just manner, adhering to the relevant laws, regulations, and procedures governing the electoral process.

An important highlight of the election was the impressive turnout rate of 84.58%, surpassing the participation rate in previous parliamentary elections.
